Why are the viewpoints on Uvac so special?

The meanders of Uvac represent one of the most striking natural sights in the Balkans. Over thousands of years, the Uvac River has carved a deep canyon, creating large and elegant bends in its course.

When these curves are viewed from above, it gives the impression that someone has carefully painted the river on the green canvas of the mountain landscape. This very sight makes Uvac one of the most photographed natural sites in Serbia.

The most beautiful viewpoints on Uvac

Viewpoint Molitva

The most famous and visited viewpoint on Uvac is the Molitva viewpoint. It is from this spot that the most well-known photographs of the Uvac River meanders have been taken, often seen in tourist guides and promotional materials about the natural beauties of Serbia.

From the Molitva viewpoint, a spectacular view of several large bends of the river unfolds, creating one of the most recognizable landscapes in this part of Europe. When the weather is clear, the panorama of the Uvac canyon appears almost surreal, and visitors often have the chance to see the griffon vulture soaring above the steep cliffs.

The road to the viewpoint is now significantly easier than before. Most of the route follows a paved road through the beautiful nature of the Uvac canyon, leading to a parking area near the viewpoint itself. Along the way, you pass through small villages Družinići and Muhovići, which further enhance the authentic atmosphere of this region.

Nearby, there is also the Ethno Village Vidikovac, where visitors can take a short break, enjoy a coffee, and admire the view of the surrounding mountains. Many tourists choose to leave their cars here and then walk a few kilometers to the viewpoint, enjoying the untouched nature, mountain air, and fields of fragrant wild sage that grow on the slopes of this area.

The last part of the journey leads along a walking path through nature, and this short walk adds to the special experience of arriving at one of the most beautiful places to gaze at the Uvac meanders.

Viewpoint Veliki vrh

Another interesting spot for observing the canyon is Veliki vrh. This viewpoint offers a different perspective of the Uvac canyon and is often less visited than the Molitva viewpoint.

From Veliki vrh, the view encompasses a wider area of the canyon, allowing visitors to see how the river carves through the mountain landscape.

Due to its somewhat calmer atmosphere, many nature lovers prefer this viewpoint.

The Veliki vrh viewpoint is usually accessed from the direction of Sjenica or Nova Varoš. Most of the route can be traveled by car along a local road that winds through the nature of the Pešter Plateau and the villages surrounding the Uvac reserve. After that, a shorter walking trail leads to the viewpoint itself.

The walk to the viewpoint typically takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the starting point and walking pace. The trail goes through nature, allowing visitors to enjoy views of forests, mountain meadows, and the tranquility of this area along the way.

Due to the smaller number of tourists compared to the Molitva viewpoint, this spot often provides a quieter experience of nature and excellent conditions for landscape photography.

After visiting the viewpoint, many tourists also choose to take a boat ride through the Uvac canyon, during which they can see steep cliffs, caves, and places where the griffon vulture resides. This ride offers a completely different perspective of the canyon and allows the meanders to be experienced from the very valley of the river.
