What to see in Uvac in three days – a complete nature getaway plan
There are trips where you try to visit as many places as possible. And then there are those after which you realize how much you needed to slow down, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and not look at the clock for a few days.
Uvac, Sjenica, and the Pešter Plateau are not destinations to be explored in a hurry. One day is enough for a few photos, but you need at least three days to experience the canyon from both water and land, visit the viewpoint Molitva, get to know Sjenica, and feel the hospitality of this region.
The Ethno Village Vidikovac is located in the village of Družiniće, at an altitude of about 1,200 meters, surrounded by pastures, mountain air, and nature that still lives at its own pace. From here, you can easily organize the most important tours, and return each day to the tranquility of wooden cabins and the flavors of local cuisine.
Here’s what your three-day getaway in Uvac might look like.
Day One – Arrival, viewpoint Molitva, and sunset
Most guests arrive at the Ethno Village Vidikovac around 2 PM. After the journey, there’s no need to create a strenuous plan right away. First, settle into your cabin, relax, and allow yourself to feel the change: the silence, the fresher air, and the open view of nature.
A boat ride is usually not possible to fit into the arrival day. Tours generally start earlier and need to be arranged in advance. Therefore, the first afternoon should be spent on what is closest to us – the viewpoint Molitva.
Viewpoint Molitva – the first encounter with the meanders of Uvac
The viewpoint Molitva is about four kilometers from the Ethno Village Vidikovac. You can drive there, and those who love walking and active relaxation can cover part of the route on foot, depending on the weather and fitness level.
Molitva is situated at 1,247 meters above sea level, approximately 110 meters above the lake's surface. From the arranged wooden platform, one of the most famous views of the meandering Uvac is revealed.
The Tourist Organization of Sjenica states that this place is about 15 kilometers from Sjenica.
You don’t come here just for the photo. It’s necessary to pause, observe the canyon, and listen to the silence occasionally interrupted by the sound of birds.
In the wider area of the reserve, there is a significant habitat for the griffon vulture. These magnificent birds often circle above the canyon, so the chances of spotting them are quite good. However, nature does not operate on a schedule, and seeing wildlife can never be guaranteed.
Sunset over Pešter
Save the first evening for the sunset. You can observe it from the canyon area or return to the Ethno Village Vidikovac and enjoy the colors spilling over the meadows and wooden cabins.
Summer days can be warm, but evenings at around 1,200 meters above sea level are significantly cooler. Even in August, bring a sweatshirt, a light jacket, or a warmer layer of clothing.
After the sunset, return to the ethno village for a homemade dinner. This is the moment for Sjenica cheese, kaymak, peppers in cream, pie, mantije, beef prosciutto, or veal specialties – food that here is not a decoration for tourists, but a part of everyday life.
Before sleeping, arrange a boat ride for the next day. The hosts can assist with the booking, the current departure point, and transportation organization.
Day Two – Boat ride, Ice Cave, and griffon vultures
The second day should be reserved for the biggest adventure: a boat ride through the Uvac canyon.
The departure plan depends on the season, water levels, weather conditions, and the organizer's schedule. Currently, tours are often organized from the Uvac dam area, but the exact boarding location always needs to be confirmed before departure.
Guests can drive to the dam in their own car. For guests of the Ethno Village Vidikovac, transportation can be organized with prior arrangement: pick-up at the ethno village, transfer to the boarding point, and return after the tour is completed.
This means you don’t have to think about navigation and parking. Your only task is to bring what you need and enjoy the canyon.
What is a boat ride through the Uvac canyon like?
From the water, you can see how vast and wild this area is. The boat passes between steep limestone cliffs, beneath viewpoints, and alongside parts of the canyon that cannot be seen from land.
The Sjenica Lake is located at an altitude of 985 meters, and its meanders stretch approximately 25 kilometers. It is part of the Special Nature Reserve "Uvac" and one of the most significant habitats for the griffon vulture. The Tourist Organization of Sjenica highlights the boat ride, viewpoints, and preserved nature as the main values of this area.
During the cruise, griffon vultures can be spotted, and their nests can be found on the cliffs and parts of the canyon. The wingspan of adult birds can reach almost three meters, so their flight above the boat leaves a special impression.
Observe them quietly and without attempting to approach the nests. Here, we are guests of nature.
Visit to the Ice Cave
One of the most beautiful parts of the organized tour is the visit to the Ice Cave. The entrance, hidden in the canyon cliffs, is accessed from the water, which is why the visit should be organized with an authorized guide.
The Ice Cave is part of the Ušački Cave System, whose connected channels are 6,185 meters long. The system consists of the Ušačka and Ice Cave and the Bezdan pit, and the interior is adorned with stalactites, stalagmites, columns, draperies, and other forms of cave decorations. The Tourist Region of Western Serbia states that this is the largest known cave system in Serbia.

Even on a warm summer day, the temperature in the cave is significantly lower than outside.
Afternoon at the hanging bridge
After returning from the boat ride, don’t plan another big activity. Leave time for lunch, rest, and a leisurely walk.
Nearby, in the area of Sjenica Lake, there is a hanging bridge that can be reached from the Ethno Village Vidikovac in about ten minutes by car.
This is a nice, short visit for photography, a walk by the water, and another view of the nature of Uvac.
In the evening, return to the ethno village. After a day spent on the water and in the cave, homemade food tastes completely different.
Day Three – Sjenica, Sjenica House, Sultan Valide Mosque, and Vrelo
On the third day, get to know Sjenica and its surroundings. The town is about nine kilometers from the Ethno Village Vidikovac, so its attractions can easily be combined into one pleasant trip.
Sjenica is a small mountain town where you don’t seek a spectacle around every corner. Its beauty lies in the people, the calmer rhythm, the park, the café terraces, the aroma of local food, and the feeling that you have arrived in a place that still retains its character.
Youth Park and Sjenica House
Start your walk in the Youth Park. It features a playground, making this part of the town particularly pleasant for families.
The park also houses the Sjenica House – a recognizable building that represents a replica of an authentic house from Sjenica from the late 19th and early 20th century.
It is home to the Tourist Organization of Sjenica and the City Library "Muhamed Abdagić," and there are plans to present traditional Bosniak and Serbian rooms.
The Sjenica House is not just a beautiful backdrop for a photo. It visually tells the story of the construction methods, life, and culture of the people who have lived in this harsh yet rich area for centuries.
Sultan Valide Mosque
In the very heart of Sjenica stands the Sultan Valide Mosque, one of the most important monuments of Ottoman architecture in this part of Serbia.
It was built in the mid-19th century as a foundation of Pertevnihal Valide Sultan, the mother of Sultan Abdulaziz. It is particularly recognizable for its large dome without internal columns, with a diameter of about 15 meters. The Tourist Organization describes it as the only imperial mosque in Serbia and a protected cultural monument.
When visiting religious sites, please respect the prayer times, dress code, and photography rules. If the site is open, it’s best to first ask if entry is allowed.
Break in the center of Sjenica
After the tour, take a break in one of the cafés or on the terrace in the center. This is a good moment to not rush, observe the town, and talk with the locals.
The hospitality of this region is best experienced through its people. Ask where to buy good Sjenica cheese, beef prosciutto, or local products to take home. The best recommendations often come not from the internet, but from the person at the neighboring table.
Vrelo Grabovice and the old watermill
From the center of Sjenica, continue towards Vrelo, a picnic area by the source of the Grabovica River and the old watermill.
This is not a place to rush through. The sound of water, greenery, and freshness create a natural respite from the journey. Stroll along the river, take a break, and enjoy the simple sight of water powering the mill mechanism.
The watermills of this region remind us of a time when grain from the surrounding pastures and fields was milled by the power of water, and flour was the basis of everyday nutrition. Therefore, visiting Vrelo naturally complements the story of Sjenica pies, bread, and local cuisine.
Monastery Kumanica – peace at the border of Serbia and Montenegro
If you have enough time or are continuing your journey to Montenegro, you can extend your trip to the Kumanica Monastery.
The monastery is located in the valley of Lima, in the area of the village of Vrbnica, about 40 kilometers from Sjenica. The exact time of its establishment is not definitively determined, but preserved remains suggest a period from the late 13th to the 15th century, while the first written mention dates back to the 16th century.
After a long period of destruction and abandonment, it was restored and reconsecrated in 2000.
Below the monastery is a spring known among the people as "father's water." According to the belief of pilgrims, the water has a beneficial effect on vision. This is a folk and religious tradition, not a medically proven therapy.
If you wish to take some water with you, bring clean plastic bottles. Use the visit primarily for peace, silence, and getting to know an important spiritual place in this area.
The nature of Pešter is not a backdrop – it is the main part of the getaway
Between all these places lies what makes the journey special: untouched nature.
Roads pass by pastures with cows and sheep, green rolling hills, springs, stone fences, and solitary houses. The sky seems wider, the air fresher, and the silence deeper than in the city.
The Pešter Field is located at about 1,150 meters above sea level and represents one of the largest karst fields in the Balkans.

Here, you don’t have to constantly search for the next attraction. Sometimes the most beautiful part of the day is sitting in front of the cabin, looking at the meadow, and enjoying an evening where for the first time in a long time, you lack nothing.
Flavors that make Sjenica memorable
You cannot get to know Pešter without trying its food.
Sjenica cheese, kaymak, beef prosciutto, veal, homemade sausages, pies, mantije, and peppers in cream carry the taste of the region in which they were created. Cooler nights, mountain pastures, and traditional preparation methods have influenced a cuisine that is strong, simple, and sincere.
After a walk to Molitva, a boat ride on Uvac, or a day spent in Sjenica, a homemade meal is not just dinner. It is the final part of the experience.
